Subsidy Plan
PURPOSE
Established on April 23, 2003, for the 2003/04 season, in alignment with the League’s Mission Statement, this subsidy plan aims to address the inherent costs of hockey and financial disparities within the LGBTQ+ and allied community.
ADMINISTRATION OF THE PLAN
- A three-member committee consisting of the Commissioner, Treasurer, and Member Relations Director will make written recommendations to the Board for ratification.
- Each recommendation will require ratification by the Board, constituting a majority of at least 50% of the Board Members.
AMOUNT AND PURPOSE OF THE SUBSIDY
- Funds shall subsidize League or tournament registration fees. The Subsidy Committee may choose to apply funds directly instead of providing cash to successful applicants.
- The committee may subsidize up to an amount determined at their discretion.
- Recipients of funding must volunteer for at least one major League event. The Subsidy Committee, in consultation with the Board, will handle this assignment.
APPLICATIONS TO THE SUBSIDY PLAN
- The subsidy application form is available on this webpage and will also be available during registration.
- Members will apply separately for subsidies by submitting completed applications to the Subsidy Committee. The Member Relations Director will forward subsidy applications to the Subsidy Committee Board member for consideration.
- On the subsidy application, members must specify the purpose of assistance, the amount of subsidy requested, and the reason for seeking it. All information will be treated as confidential.
- The deadline for tournament subsidy applications is 30 days before the tournament.
- The deadline for League subsidy applications is the player's first game of the season.
- Members failing to attend a subsidized tournament must reimburse the League for the full subsidy amount.
- If a subsidy application is denied, the applicant will receive reasons for rejection.
FINANCING OF THE FUND AND OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES
- Members can contribute to the Subsidy Fund during registration by including a donation with their League registration fee. Alternatively, they can utilize the donation function on this page to donate via PayPal.
- The Board may allocate proceeds from one or more fundraising events during the year to the Subsidy Fund.
- Subsidy funds will be tracked separately and used exclusively for subsidies.
- The Treasurer will track subsidy funds in a separate budget line within the main League budget, kept in the League’s primary bank account.
- The Board will set the budget for the Subsidy Fund.
- The funds available in the separate Subsidy Fund will limit the total amount given out during a hockey season.
