Substitute Player Registration

Become an Occasional Playing Member

Interested in joining TGHA but not ready for a permanent roster spot, or looking to participate as a substitute player? Occasional Playing Members are eligible to be contacted for substitute opportunities during the season and may also participate in eligible league events and activities.

Key Benefits:

  • Flexible participation as a substitute player.
  • Access to skills development sessions and shinnies.
  • Invitation to off-ice events, including the holiday party and year-end banquet.
  • Occasional Playing Members who meaningfully participate throughout the season may receive an invitation to register as a Permanent Playing Member after returning players and before new players. Meaningful participation may include substituting in games, attending on-ice activities, and participating in off-ice events.
  • An opportunity to remain connected with the TGHA community throughout the season.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Occasional Playing Members are not assigned to a permanent team, and substitute opportunities cannot be guaranteed.
  • Substitute invitations are based on team needs, skill-level matching, and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Occasional Playing Members are non-voting members of the league and are not eligible to participate in Board nominations or elections.
  • Players and goalies who have never previously participated in a TGHA game as either a permanent player or substitute player may be required to complete an on-ice assessment before being eligible to play.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Teams can request substitute players to fill vacancies on a game-by-game basis when they have fewer than 10 confirmed skaters. To maintain a fun and competitive balance across teams, substitutes are matched based on skill level and must be similar in ability to the absent player.

When a substitute is needed, an email will be sent to eligible players at the appropriate skill level. Spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note that substitute opportunities vary throughout the season and cannot be guaranteed. Invitations are based on team needs and skill-level matching.

Can Occasional Playing Members Become Permanent?

Yes. Eligible Occasional Playing Members may have opportunities to become Permanent Playing Members if roster spots become available through TGHA's Player Replacement and Substitution Policy.
