Substitute Player Registration

Become an Occasional Playing Member

Are you interested in joining but unsure about commitment or the league has reached capacity? Consider becoming an Occasional Playing Member! As a substitute player, you'll enjoy the flexibility to join games and take part in both on-ice and off-ice activities. You could even transition into a Permanent Playing Member if an opportunity arises.

Key Benefits:

  • Flexible participation as a substitute player.
  • Join on-ice activities like skills development sessions and shinnies.
  • Attend off-ice events, including the holiday party and year-end banquet.
  • Opportunity to transition to a Permanent Playing Member based on availability.
  • Priority registration after returning full-time players but before new players.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

What is an Occasional Playing Member?

Occasional Playing Members are substitute players who are not permanently assigned to a team but are eligible to step in when needed. They also get access to:

  • On-ice activities: Skills development sessions and shinnies.
  • Off-ice events: Holiday party and year-end banquet.

However, Occasional Playing Members:

  • Are non-voting members of the league (cannot participate in Board nominations/elections).
  • May not be guaranteed a substitute spot for games but are still welcome to participate in other league activities.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

This season, teams can request substitute players to fill vacancies on a game-by-game basis when they have fewer than 10 confirmed skaters. To maintain a fun and competitive balance across teams, substitutes are matched based on skill level and must be similar in ability to the absent player.

When a sub is needed, an email will be sent to eligible players at the appropriate skill level. Spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Note: While we aim to provide opportunities for everyone to get on the ice, players with higher skill ratings may receive more substitute invites based on team needs.

Can Occasional playing members become permanent?

Yes! Occasional Playing Members may become Permanent Playing Members if placed on a team following the TGHA's Player Replacement and Substitution Policy.
